Abstract Article (2001) 5 VJ 1, 3-21
How to create one uniform contract law
Franco Ferrari*
Professor Franco Ferrari's article focuses on the consequences of the existence of
the large number of Conventions in the area of contract law. While recognising
the apparent reduction in barriers to trade brought about by such Conventions
through their inherent 'boundarylessnes', Professor Ferrari also points out that
these Conventions increase the sources of law that must be taken into account
by business people and courts.
The article addresses the problem of co-ordination of current and future conventions
in the area of contract law, with a particular focus on the United Nations Convention
on the International Sale of Goods, the UNIDROIT Convention on International
Factoring and the UNDROIT Convention on International Leasing.
