The History and Significance of the New York Convention

The New York Convention is one of the many, and one of the most important, attainments of the United Nations in promoting a more effective and universal rule of law. Thereby it serves international trade and commerce, which has been one of the objectives pursued during the diplomatic conference in 1958.

In order to understand the significance of the Convention, its origin and history is to be described before an examination of the role of the Convention within German jurisdiction.
